For minimal testing the runtime part and the dynamically *or* one of the statically linked versions will be needed.
Dynamically and statically linked versions differ in contents.
(If you are only about for testing the ability to start and run the application:
at least the statically linked (any of those interpreter versions) should
be able to start even without the runtime part or the data in the data archive.)
For testing *everything* (especially larger demos) the date contained inside
the additional data archive must be installed. The optimal case is all archives.
The tarballs containing the software can be unpacked from the HOME directory
in the usual way (tar -xvzf filename.tar.gz
or with the actual bunzip2 option with tar for the tar.bz2 archive).
When being unpacked two directories under HOME will be created
$HOME/gisig and $HOME/gisdata containing several subdirectories.
$HOME/gisig is the main working directory of the central application
in this installation.
The central application can be evoked by calling the executable
with the extension .sfc from the installation choosen
(e.g. big or small interpreter).
For using special environments (vtk/GRASS/...)
it is possible to create specific wrapper applications
for starting this application.
The installation described here is a simple default installation.
With some experience it is possible to personalize the installation
for the operating system used.
